Conservation Voters of PA issued the following statement in response to calls from Governor Wolf’s budget proposal.
We are pleased that Governor Wolf has included substantial investments in critical conservation projects in his proposed budget. At a time when the pandemic has highlighted the importance of open space, Pennsylvania must take advantage of this historic opportunity to utilize federal recovery money to reduce maintenance backlogs in our state parks, improve the quality of our rivers, clean up abandoned mines, and preserve our farmland.
These investments would create green jobs, stimulate local economies, and reduce the risk of flooding. This proposal enjoys bipartisan support, and we look forward to working with our partners in the legislature to secure this important funding.
Governor Wolf’s budget proposal also includes desperately needed investments in the departments of Environmental Protection and Conservation and Natural Resources. His proposal would put the environmental watchdog back on the beat and give the state more resources to hold polluters accountable, protect our clean air and water and preserve our farmland, state parks and forests. We call on the legislature to include these investments in its final budget.
