Conservation Voters of PA Interim Executive Director Molly Parzen and Sierra Club of Pennsylvania Legislative and Political Director Jen Quinn issued the following statement in response to calls from Governor Wolf and Pennsylvania Democratic legislative leaders this afternoon to increase funding for conservation projects across Pennsylvania:

We are pleased that Governor Wolf and Democratic legislative leaders have announced a major new proposal to increase funding for critical conservation projects across our state. At a time when the pandemic has highlighted the importance of preserved open space, Pennsylvania must take advantage of this historic opportunity to utilize federal recovery money to reduce maintenance backlogs in our state parks, improve the quality of our rivers, clean up abandoned mines and preserve our farmland.

These investments, under the Growing Greener program, would create green jobs, stimulate local economies that rely on tourism, reduce the risk of flooding and help ensure that more Pennsylvanians have access to clean air, pure water and nearby outdoor recreational opportunities.

These priorities enjoy unprecedented bipartisan support, and we look forward to working with Governor Wolf and legislative leaders in pushing this proposal over the finish line as part of the annual budget process.
