“Key environmental issues affecting Chester County, such as pipelines, pesticides, land management, and stormwater, are being managed at the municipal level,” said Josh McNeil, Executive Director of Conservation Voters of PA. “It is imperative that we elect strong leaders at every level of government who will make protecting our environment a priority.”
This is the first time that Conservation Voters of PA has decided to endorse at the local level. CVPA believes that candidates like Ashley Gagné, running for West Goshen Township Supervisor, represent the future of local environmental work. Ashley founded the West Goshen Sustainability Task Force, created the West Goshen Township Environmental Committee’s website which helps inform and educate the community, and is committed to creating a long-term plan to work towards 100% renewable energy by 2030.
In Uwchlan Township, which faces pressing threats from the Mariner East Pipelines, Kim Doan and Mayme Baumann are running for re-election. In their first term, they demonstrated that they will prioritize the environment over fossil fuel infrastructure by consistently holding big corporations like Sunoco accountable and establishing Uwchlan Township’s first Environmental Advisory Council.
Each endorsed candidate has committed to a vision of a cleaner, more sustainable Chester County and Conservation Voters of PA is proud to support their critical work at the local level. CVPA knows that good laws come from good lawmakers, so it seeks to endorse and support environmental champions running for office at the state, county, and municipal levels. In 2018, CVPA helped more than 75% of its endorsed candidates win their elections. To learn more, visit us at www.conservationpa.org.
