Important CVPA Campaign Update: We Protected our House Majority in Harrisburg!
Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania Executive Director Molly Parzen has released the following open letter in response to news that voters have returned a pro-environment majority to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
Dear Supporters,
I’m writing with an exciting and important update that brings hope during this difficult time.
Thanks in large part to your hard work, dedication, and support, we held our pro-environment majority in the state House of Representatives. Our efforts have also returned the same number of pro-environment senators to Harrisburg next year.
Considering the national results, this is a remarkable achievement and will prove to be a crucial barrier against future anti-environment actions.
While much public attention has rightly focused on the presidential and congressional races, Pennsylvania’s state legislature has a major role to play in the fight against climate change and in protecting our clean air, pure water, and open space.
In the past two years alone, we have seen a pro-environment House advance significant environmental priorities, including Solar for Schools legislation and increased funding to plug abandoned oil and gas wells.
With this new session, we’re excited to build on these accomplishments with our environmental champions in both chambers.
As I said earlier, this historic result is only possible because of you.
This cycle, CVPA invested more than $2.2 million in critical state legislative races across Pennsylvania. And thanks to our dedicated staff and volunteers, we knocked on over 160,000 doors and reached hundreds of thousands of voters through robust digital advertising campaigns seen nearly 22 million times.
Our work included crucial programs to protect State Reps. Brian Munroe in Bucks County, Jim Haddock in Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties, and Mandy Steele in Allegheny County, and more. In fact, Rep. Munroe secured re-election by only 1,000 votes, and we know the thousands of doors we knocked in his district made a difference.
As we chart a path forward, we know that electoral victories like these are the result of broad-based grassroots campaigns that meet voters where they are.
With your partnership, we will use this same approach to keep Pennsylvania a bulwark against an extreme, MAGA agenda that threatens our environment and democracy.
The road ahead will be challenging, but the victories we achieved together at the state level will energize and drive our work going forward.
Thank you for standing with us, now and always.
With gratitude and hope,
Molly Parzen
