Conservation Voters of PA Issues Post Election Statement
Organization hails the election of pro-environment, pro-democracy candidates across the Commonwealth
PHILADELPHIA – Conservation Voters of PA issued the following statement from Executive Director Molly Parzen regarding the outcome of a number of key races:
“From the statewide judicial races to critical county elections, Pennsylvanians elected pro-environment, pro-democracy candidates yesterday. Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania is very gratified by the election of Daniel McCaffery to the Supreme Court. Justice-elect McCaffery’s victory is an affirmation of our constitutional right to ‘clean air, pure water’ and the preservation of the environment.
“Conservation Voters of PA is proud to have supported the campaign of the justice-elect and we are encouraged that the PA Supreme Court will continue to prioritize the health and welfare of Pennsylvanians by vigorously defending environmental protection.
“In Allegheny County, Conservation Voters of PA is proud to have supported Allegheny County Executive-elect Sara Innamorato. Throughout her tenure in the state House of Representatives, she was a champion of environmental protection and safeguarding the health and welfare of Pennsylvanians, particularly those living in environmental justice communities. We look forward to working with County Executive-elect Innamorato to make transformative investments in the growing clean energy economy and protect communities’ clean air and water in southwestern Pennsylvanians.
“Conservation Voters of PA and its environmental allies invested more than $350,000 and devoted hundreds of staff and volunteer hours to grassroots efforts to turnout voters while billionaires and allies of corporate polluters poured millions of dollars into this election. Pennsylvanians rejected their cynical messaging, and the 2023 election should rightly be considered a defining referendum in which voters unmistakably chose to protect our environment, ballot access and the integrity of our elections.
“Conservation Voters of PA also endorsed in critical county council and commission races across the state, winning over 90% of those races. These victories will serve as an outstanding springboard for our efforts as we turn our attention to 2024.”
