Conservation Voters of PA Applauds House Passage of ‘Solar for Schools’ Legislation
Conservation Voters of PA released the following statement from Katie Blume, Political and Legislative Director, on state House passage of House Bill 1032:
“Conservation Voters of PA applauds the bi-partisan PA House majority that passed House Bill 1032, Solar for Schools legislation earlier today. This legislation, once enacted, will be a win for the 1.6 million children in our Commonwealth’s public schools, a win for taxpayers, and a win for the burgeoning clean energy economy in PA.
“Incentivizing the conversion to on-site solar energy by schools will allow PA school districts to save hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in energy costs. These savings, particularly valuable to underserved districts and those disproportionately affected by environmental injustice, can be invested to make other capital improvements and invest in more teachers, support staff, and educational programming.
“The installation and maintenance of projects via Solar for Schools will also create family-sustaining jobs in communities across the Commonwealth, demonstrating again that investing in the 21st century clean energy economy is good for workers and Pennsylvania businesses. We commend the bill sponsor, Rep. Elizabeth Fiedler, and those who voted in favor of the measure and urge the state Senate to quickly consider House Bill 1032 in order that Pennsylvanians may enjoy the environmental and economic advantages of solar energy.”
