Conservation Voters of PA Action Fund Rolls Out Robust Campaign Program

Organizations targets 10 state house seats as part of statewide effort to help expand a pro-environment majority

With fewer than 50 days until the 2024 election, the Conservation Voters of PA (CVPA) has announced an aggressive campaign to elect pro-environment candidates up and down the ballot this fall.

Specifically, the organization has announced four goals it hopes to achieve in rolling out this campaign: First, solidify control of the state House. Second, increase margins in the state Senate. Third, gain pro-environment and pro-democracy control of key state row offices. Fourth, drive turnout and shore up support for candidates up and down the ballot among key demographics.

“As we enter this historic election season, Conservation Voters of Pennsylvania is dedicated to protecting and expanding our slim pro-environment majority in the House and winning additional seats for environmental champions in the Senate,” said Katie Blume, Political and Legislative Director for CVPA. “We’ve seen what we’ve been able to get done with a slim majority: increasing funding for conservation efforts, leveraging federal dollars to expand clean energy, and passing landmark Solar for Schools legislation. But we’ve also seen good ideas fail to advance because too many legislators put the profits of corporate polluters over the economic well-being and health of their constituents. Our election effort is designed to change that equation by directly engaging with voters to explain how environmental policy set in Harrisburg impacts the ability of families to breathe clean air and drink pure water.”

The group plans to focus its energies on electing three pro-environment candidates to the state House of Representatives in Allegheny County (HD 28,  33, 44), three in Bucks County (HD 142, 143, 144), two in Luzerne County (HD 118, 119), one in Lehigh County (HD 187), and one in Northampton County (HD 137). These targeted races are intended to bolster the slim 102-101 pro-environment majority in the House.

This campaign in particular comes after a successful 2022 cycle, during which time CVPA drove high turnout in strategic areas of the state to help win six of the organization’s targeted races — flipping control of the state House to pro-environment control for the first time in over a decade. As it has in the past, the organization’s strategic plan will feature a multipronged strategy that includes door knocking, digital outreach, phone calling and text-banking to reach voters in the persuasion and turnout universes.
