Sen. Vince Hughes
Senator Hughes has served in the Pennsylvania Senate since 1994. Sen. Hughes is currently Minority Chair of Senate Appropriations and he holds a 96% lifetime environmental score.
Some of the key environmental legislation Sen. Hughes has worked on includes:
- Lead Remediation and Abatement Superfund (SB 221) to help municipalities cover the cost of lead pipe removal, especially in spaces frequented by children (schools, care facilities, public housing units, etc.).
- Senate Bill 148, which is a Sales and Use Tax Exemption for solar energy systems. This is a reintroduction of Sen. Rafferty’s bill from last session.
- Senate Bill 917, which would codify and expand the Office of Environmental Justice within the Department of Environmental Protection. It would also mandate the office develop a statewide plan and create a rapid response task force.
- Sen. Hughes has also sponsored and cosponsored multiple bills and resolutions to address the state of schools in Philadelphia, including the need for lead and asbestos remediation, and has worked closely with the Governor on the recent announcement for $1 billion to be invested into lead programs across the state.
We urge voters to cast their vote for Sen. Hughes in the 7th district!
